New York Firm Recalls Stuffed Chicken Products Due To Misbranding and Undeclared Allergens
FSIS Announcement
WASHINGTON, Nov. 23, 2011 - Berk Lombardo, a Brooklyn, N.Y. establishment, is recalling approximately 1,080 pounds of stuffed chicken products because of misbranding and undeclared ingredients, including known allergens. The products may contain any of the following combinations of undeclared ingredients: eggs, milk, monosodium glutamate (MSG) or soy, which are not noted on the label.
The products subject to recall include:
- Boxes containing four, 6-oz. frozen, vacuum-sealed packages of "Berk Lombardo CHICKEN BREAST STUFFED BROCCOLI & CHEESE" that bears the establishment number "P-19034" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
- Boxes containing four, 6-oz. frozen, vacuum-sealed packages of "Berk Lombardo CHICKEN BREAST with rib meat CORDON BLEU BREADED" that bears the establishment number "P-19034" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
- Boxes containing four, 6-oz. frozen, vacuum-sealed packages of "Berk Lombardo STUFFED CHICKEN BREAST KIEV" that bears the establishment number "P-19034" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The uncooked products were sold directly to individual households throughout Long Island.
FSIS discovered the problem during a label review at the establishment. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. MSG is not classified as an allergen, but can cause a brief reaction in people with a sensitivity to MSG. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
Consumers and media with questions about the recall should contact the company's senior management, Paul or Greg Lombardo, at (718) 782-1477.
