Contacting OPPD By Phone
If a customer who has received a response from askFSIS wants to speak to the Office of Policy and Program Development (OPPD) Staff Officer who provided the response, can the customer call OPPD instead of continuing the written correspondence through askFSIS?
Yes, customers are welcome to contact OPPD by calling 1-800-233-3935, Monday through Friday (excluding Federal holidays), from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm EST, and can select from the following options:
- (Press “1”) Import or export of meat, poultry or egg products,
- (Press “2”) Labeling or amenability determinations,
- (Press “3”) Sampling, new technology, new ingredients or HACCP validation,
- (Press “4”) Any other topic. These calls will go to the Policy Development Staff, which handles-inspection related policies, or the Small Plant Helpdesk, or
- (Press “0”) Receptionist
For the best customer service, customers should have their incident reference number available (e.g., 010220-000123), located in the auto-response sent from askFSIS. If OPPD is not immediately available or the customer is calling after hours, customers can leave a detailed message and OPPD will return their call as soon as possible. Alternatively, the customer can update their written incident in askFSIS and request to be called by providing their telephone number and a preferred time to be contacted.
