
California Firm Recalls Ready-To-Eat Meals Produced Without Benefit of Inspection

WASHINGTON, Nov. 2, 2011 - Judy's Catering, LLC., a Burbank, Calif., establishment, is expanding its recall of ready-to-eat chicken, turkey, beef and pork products by an undetermined amount to include two additional products, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The products were produced without the benefit of inspection. The initial recall was issued on Oct. 26.
The following products are subject to recall:
- "CHATEAU BRIAND W/MIXED VEGETABLES AND A STARCH"
- "Y/C ROAST BEEF W/MIXED VEGETABLES AND A STARCH"
The Chateau Briand product bears the establishment number "P-21579" inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product label and can be identified by the production dates of 7/14/11 or 9/13/11 and expiration dates of 01/14/12 or 03/13/12.
The Y/C Roast Beef product bears the establishment number "EST. 21579" inside the USDA mark of inspection and can be identified by the production date of 07/14/11 and an expiration date of 1/14/12.
WASHINGTON, Oct. 26, 2011 - Judy's Catering, LLC., a Burbank, Calif., establishment, is recalling approximately 4,100 pounds of ready-to-eat meals because they were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The following products are subject to recall:
- 7-in. by 4-in. aluminum containers of Emuna Foods "Chicken Rosemary w/ couscous & mixed vegetable"
- 7-in. by 4-in. aluminum containers of Hacor "Chicken Rosemary w/ couscous & mixed vegetable"
- 7-in. by 4-in. aluminum containers of Emuna Foods "Chicken Rosemary Kosher for Passover"
- 7-in. by 4-in. aluminum containers of Hacor "Chicken Rosemary Kosher for Passover"
- 7-in. by 4-in. aluminum containers of Emuna Foods "Y/C Chicken Rosemary w/ Mixed Vegetable & Roast Potato"
- 7-in. by 4-in. aluminum containers of Hacor "Y/C Chicken Rosemary w/ Mixed Vegetable & Roast Potato"
- 7-in. by 4-in. aluminum containers of Emuna Foods "Y/C Roast Beef w/ Mixed Vegetable & a Starch"
- 7-in. by 4-in. aluminum containers of Hacor "Y/C Roast Beef w/ Mixed Vegetable & a Starch"

- 9-in. by 5-in. aluminum containers of Emuna Foods "Saffron chicken kebob w/ mixed vegetables & rice"
- 9-in. by 5-in. aluminum containers of Emuna Foods "Meatloaf w/ rice & carrots"
- 9-in. by 5-in. aluminum containers of Emuna Foods "Roasted turkey w/ orzo pasta & green beans"
- 9-in. by 5-in. aluminum containers of Emuna Foods "Beef Goulash (Beef Stew) w/ Mixed Vegetable & a Starch"
The products listed above bear the establishment number "P-21579" or "EST. 21579" inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product label. The products also can be identified by the production dates or lot numbers 4/27/11, 6/15/11, 8/10/11, 9/12/11, or 9/13/11. The products have a six-month shelflife and can also be identified by expiration dates 10/27/11, 12/15/11, 2/10/12, 3/12/12, or 3/13/12.
The ready-to-eat meals were sent to distribution centers in the Los Angeles County, Calif. area who may have sold them to airlines and hospitals. FSIS has received no reports of illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider.

Judy's Catering, LLC produces these items on an intermittent basis and requests FSIS inspection before operating. On the days listed above, the company operated without FSIS inspection personnel present. FSIS inspection personnel visited the plant to collect data and found that the company had produced meals on these dates. FSIS may take additional regulatory action based on the results of this investigation.
