- PURPOSE
This notice reissues instructions previously issued in FSIS Notice 33-22, Modifications to the Kidney Inhibition Swab (KISTM) Reason Code Selection Options in the Public Health Information System, which expires July 1, 2023, to continue to inform Public Health Veterinarians, Supervisory Consumer Safety Inspectors, and Consumer Safety Inspectors of the KISTM testing reason codes in the Public Health Information System (PHIS). - BACKGROUND
This notice provides instructions for entering KISTMcodes in PHIS. This information will be incorporated into the PHIS User guide. - INSTRUCTIONS
- Inspection Program Personnel (IPP) are to review the PHIS Animal Disposition Reporting (ADR) User Guide for detailed instructions on using the PHIS ADR module, entering a livestock disposition record, and entering KISTM test results.
- IPP are to select the Reason Code from the drop-down menu in the Disposition Record corresponding to the reason IPP selected for KISTM Testing. The Reason codes are:
- ADR condition (select when animal is KISTM tested for the same condition as recorded in the disposition record);
- Unhealthy show/fair animals;
- Statistically selected;
- History (includes ante-mortem inspection findings, possible exposure on farm);
- Repeat violator;
- Signs of treatment (injection site, bolus, recent surgery);
- Bob veal (9 CFR 310.21);
- Exploratory assessment or special projects; and
- Prolapse (select when an animal is tested due to a rectal or vaginal prolapse).
- IPP are to follow the instructions in FSIS Directive 10,800.1, Residue Sampling, Testing and Other Verification Procedures under the National Residue Program for Meat and Poultry Products, for residue sampling of healthy show animals.
