California Firm Recalls Boneless Beef Products Imported Without Benefit of Inspection
FSIS Announcement
WASHINGTON, January 7, 2015 Jinon Corporation, dba Nijiya Market, a Torrance, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 359 pounds of frozen boneless beef products produced in Japan that were not presented at the U.S. point of entry for inspection, the U.S. Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. Without the benefit of full inspection, a possibility of adverse health consequences exists.
The following products are subject to recall: [View Label]
- Packages of various sizes containing cuts of Tender Loin, Chuck Roll, Ribeye, Strip Loin, Brisket, Chuck Short Ribs, Inside, Outside, Short Ribs, Top Sirloin Butt, Clod, Knuckle, Short Plate and Shank all sold with a Nijiya Market label
These items were produced in Japan on August 6, 2014 and imported in September of 2014. The importer cut, repackaged and sold the products at a retail store in Torrance, California.
The problem was discovered when FSIS import staff reviewed records and discovered that the importer did not present the products for USDA inspection at the U.S. point of entry.
FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
