Export Requirements

Fresh/frozen red meat and poultry, meat and poultry products, game meat, products for pet food manufacture and pharmaceutical processing, ships' stores, and certain other products intended for export to countries which are members of the European Union must follow the European Union Requirements found elsewhere in the FSIS Export Library.

Concentrated or dried poultry, beef, and pork stock is now considered a harmonized product in the European Union, and may only enter the EU when all EU requirements for Meat Products are met and the product is accompanied by the harmonized EU certificate for Meat products and treated stomachs, bladders, and intestines. These products are only eligible from establishments listed as eligible to export meat products to the EU. See the European Union Requirements for more information.

NOTE:  The Netherlands participates in a government-to-government electronic transmission of the inspection certificate data as an alternative to the paper certificate (eCert).

The products identified in the table above are eligible for export from the Netherlands to the United States as determined by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Equivalence Process. 

Source materials used to produce product intended for export to the United States must originate from a certified establishment in an eligible country that has an equivalent raw or processed products inspection system.

APHIS Animal Disease Requirements for the Netherlands

The USDA, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) restricts certain animal products from entering the United States because of animal disease conditions in the country of origin. Applicable APHIS animal disease requirements that may have an impact on the Netherlands’ eligibility to export product to the United States are listed below:

Veal imported from the Netherlands is subjected to Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) requirements specified in 9 CFR 94.11, and the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) requirements specified in 9 CFR 94.18 or 9 CFR 94.19.

Pork imported from the Netherlands is subjected to African Swine Fever (ASF) requirements specified in 9 CFR 94.8, Classical Swine Fever (CSF) requirements specified in 9 CFR 94.31, Swine Vesicular Disease (SVD) requirements specified in 9 CFR 94.13, and Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) requirements specified in 9 CFR 94.11.

Egg Products imported from the Netherland are subject to the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and Newcastle Disease (ND) requirements specified in 9 CFR 94.6 or 9 CFR 94.28.

Link to the Netherland’s Certified Establishment List

A certified establishment is an establishment that the Central Competent Authority (CCA) of the foreign country has certified as meeting the requirements of the inspection system that FSIS has determined equivalent to the United States inspection system and, therefore, eligible to export meat, poultry, or egg products to the United States.
