The guidance provides examples of meat and poultry product label labels that are true and not misleading. Additionally, claims and statements. Additionally, meat and poultry product labels that carry claims and statements listed in this guidance and that otherwise comply with FSIS labeling regulations are deemed to be generically approved by the Agency without being submitted for evaluation and approval. This guidance applies to firms and official establishments seeking approval for meat and poultry labels. It relates to the Federal Meat Inspection Act (21 USC 601 et seq.) and Poultry Product Inspection Act (21 USC 451 et seq.) requirements that meat and poultry product labels be truthful, not misleading, and approved by USDA. Its generic approval function is provided by the regulations at 9 CFR 412.2.
