ARCHIVE: Using Salary and Pay Incentives as a Recruitment Tool
“What does it pay?” This is the most common question from potential applicants. FSIS offers employees a competitive base salary plus opportunities for a sign-on bonus and locality pay.
When applying for federal positions on USAJOBS, applicants may use the “search by pay” sliding table to set their desired salary, including the minimum and maximum. Visit General Schedule (GS) for the 2024 pay tables. Please note that the tables are organized by geographic area. The tables include both annual salary and hourly rates and are divided into specific locality areas and the “Rest of the United States” (areas not part of a specific locality). The pay tables are also divided into the pay systems, such as the GS system under which FSIS employees are paid.
The base salary listed in a job announcement does not include regular pay increases, time and a half for overtime worked, or pay differentials (i.e., night differential and Sunday pay).
Depending on the position and location, incentives may be offered for hard to fill positions. Incentive options may include recruitment incentives, relocation incentives, retention incentives or accelerated promotions.
