Ms. Rosalyn Murphy-Jenkins

Rosalyn Murphy-Jenkins was selected at the Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service’s (FSIS) Office of Policy and Program Development (OPPD) in November 2020. Murphy-Jenkins will aid OPPD’s Assistant Administrator to lead the Agency’s efforts to modernize regulations, improve instructions to FSIS field personnel and to eliminate unnecessary burden to the industry. These efforts align with FSIS’ Strategic Goals: Prevent Foodborne Illness and Protect Public Health and Goal; and Modernize Inspection Systems, Policies, and the Use of Scientific Approaches.
Previously, Murphy-Jenkins served as the Labeling and Program Delivery Staff Director in OPPD. In this capacity, her team was charged with developing and implementing FSIS regulations and policies for food labeling, food standards, and amenability used in the safe production of meat, poultry, and egg products that are distributed in domestic commerce and exported to the United States. Her staff was also responsible for administering the prior label approval program, which evaluates more than 25,000 labels for meat, poultry, and egg products per year.
The Washington, D.C. native attended Pennsylvania State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science in 1988. Murphy-Jenkins worked in private industry for two years prior to joining FSIS’ Labeling Staff. Since that time, she worked her way up through the ranks to eventually lead the staff and oversee important changes to the Agency’s labeling approval system, including the transition from a manual process to an electronic system.
Murphy-Jenkins is active in her church and takes part in community outreach activities.
