Mr. James Chisholm
James Chisholm was appointed the director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service’s (FSIS) International Liaison Office in Beijing, China, in September 2022. Chisholm is responsible for representing FSIS in China on technical issues about importing and exporting meat, poultry and egg products to promote the safe international trade of these products.
Additionally, Chisholm interacts with foreign counterparts to explain changes or new methods, offering suggestions for effectively implementing programs and systems and improving existing systems. His functions directly contribute to FSIS’ Strategic Goals 1: Prevent Foodborne Illness and Protect Public Health; 2: Transform Inspection Strategies, Policies and Scientific Approaches to Improve Public Health; and 3: Achieve Operational Excellence.
Chisholm began his career with FSIS in 2010 as a red meat slaughter inspector. Since then, he has served as a consumer safety inspector, supervisory consumer safety inspector, and compliance investigator. From his roles in the field, Chisholm has extensive experience in slaughter and processing inspection of meat and poultry products, as well as import and exports.
Previously, Chisholm served as a senior staff officer with the FSIS Import/Export Policy Development Staff. He was responsible for overseeing the export policies and regulations that encompassed a variety of foreign country portfolios. Chisholm also maintained the Export Library and communicated with foreign governments to ensure that export issues were addressed and solved to limit trade interruptions.
As a supervisory compliance investigator in the FSIS Office of Investigation, Enforcement and Audit, Chisholm led investigators in surveillance reviews to ensure product was safe, wholesome and properly labeled. He also led criminal, civil and illness outbreak investigation efforts related to violations under FSIS’ regulatory jurisdiction.
Chisholm is a graduate of Colorado State University - Global with a Bachelor of Science in human resource management, a Master of Science in management and a Master of Science in organizational leadership.
