
Mr. Eric M. Lippold

Eric Lippold was named chief financial officer (CFO) for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) in December 2024. As chief of the office responsible for managing the agency’s budget, Lippold leads the development of FSIS’ financial policy, accounting systems management and financial reporting.
Lippold’s work to provide financial expertise on budget formulation and execution and develop and communicate agency policy on financial management and accounting operations directly supports FSIS’ Strategic Goals — 1: Prevent Foodborne Illness and Protect Public Health; 2: Transform Inspection Strategies, Policies and Scientific Approaches to Improve Public Health; and 3: Achieve Operational Excellence.
Lippold has extensive experience in financial management and organizational leadership from over 20 years of federal service. Preceding his tenure as CFO at FSIS, he served as the deputy director and deputy CFO of the Office of Financial Resources at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He held roles within the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, including deputy CFO and deputy assistant director for the bureau’s Office of Management. Lippold’s distinguished career also comprises prior leadership roles at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, and the U.S. Department of the Interior. Additionally, Lippold spent time serving the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service, where he acted as deputy assistant commissioner and executive architect for the Office of Financial Innovation and Transformation.
Lippold holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Texas and a bachelor’s degree in business management from LeTourneau University. He is credentialed as a certified government financial manager and certified fraud examiner.
