Agency Awards & Achievements

Each year, every FSIS program makes sure that every penny of award money is spent to recognize our employees. FSIS employees are honored for their significant contributions to the advancement of FSIS’ strategic goals, mission objectives, and overall excellence.

FSIS recognizes the achievements of employees with a variety of awards: Administrator’s Awards for Excellence (AAFE), achievement awards, peer-to-peer awards and coins recognizing Agency core values.

Types of Awards & Recognition

  1. Achievement Awards — recognize exemplary performance or an accomplishment that exceeds normal job requirements and contributes to the mission.
  2. Administrator’s Awards for Excellence (AAFE) — most prestigious agency recognition for innovative efforts to prevent foodborne illness and protect public health.
  3. Employee Suggestion Program — intended to give employees a way to submit suggestions to improve the efficiency and economy of FSIS or government operations.
  4. Peer-to-Peer Awards — a way for employees to recognize a colleague who provides exceptional assistance or helped with team efforts to achieve Agency goals.
  5. Quality Step Increase — reserved for the most exceptional levels of performance and may be granted only to those employees who have demonstrated sustained exceptional performance over at least an 18-month period in the same grade and type of position.
  6. Recognition Coins — separate category for contributions that exceeds what is expected in their normal duties. The FSIS Directive expands on the categories recognized.
  7. Under Secretary’s Awards — recognize employees who go the extra mile to affect significant change within the Agency, its programs, or the Department.

Administrator’s Awards for Excellence (AAFE)

For the Administrator Awards for Excellence (AAFE), FSIS recognizes innovative efforts to prevent foodborne illness and protect public health. An AAFE recipient archive is below.

On Sept. 24, 2024, the Under Secretary, Deputy Under Secretary, Administrator and Deputy Administrator presented the 2024 Under Secretary’s Awards and the Administrator's Awards for Excellence (AAFE).
