On April 27, we will celebrate Administrative Professionals Day. Administrative professionals at FSIS work across many functions, often wearing multiple hats, to help us manage the activities that keep FSIS running. They maintain agency databases and support systems, assist with financial and resource management, manage staffing and training, draft office reports and communications, and perform many other critical functions. Administrative professionals are absolutely essential for maintaining seamless day-to-day operations, ensuring we collectively achieve our mission to protect the public health.

For those who may not know, the principles behind Administrative Professionals Day started during World War II, which was a time when there was a shortage of people with administrative skills. The goal was to recognize the contributions of administrative personnel to the economy, to support their development, and to attract new individuals to the field. Today, Administrative Professionals Day is celebrated by organizations and individuals, in the government and private sector, throughout the U.S., on the Wednesday of the last full week of April.

We are very fortunate to have some of the best administrative professionals here at FSIS, and we celebrate and recognize them for their contributions to the team every day. We encourage everyone to reach out to the administrative professionals who work with you to say thank you and send a note of appreciation. To all FSIS administrative professionals: we thank you on behalf of all of FSIS for all that you do to support the agency’s mission to protect public health.
