Office of Public Affairs and Consumer Education (OPACE)

Congressional and Public Affairs Staff (CPAS)

CPAS ensures critical Agency information is prepared and provided to a variety of key audiences, including Congress, the media, stakeholder groups, employees and many others. Information is distributed through:

Executive Correspondence and Issues Management Staff (ECIMS)

ECIMS manages executive correspondence on a variety of public health, scientific and regulatory issues. They respond to inquiries from Congress, the public, consumer and industry groups, students and other FSIS stakeholders. The staff also publishes the FSIS employee newsletters and other resources, including:

Freedom of Information Act Staff (FOIAS)

This staff ensures compliance with the Freedom of Information Act and the Privacy Act. Many of FSIS’ most commonly requested items and other helpful FOIA resources can be found here:

Food Safety Education Staff (FSES)

FSES educates consumers about the importance of safe food handling. This staff manages the Meat and Poultry Hotline, consumer outreach, in-home educational resources and public service outreach.

Web and Digital Communications Staff (WDCS)

WDCS develops and maintains the Agency’s web presence to ensure information is easy to find and understand, accessible to all and follows web best practices. WDCS uses the latest trends in mobile, search engine optimization (SEO) and social media to reach the appropriate audiences.
