USDA Headquarters Building

FSIS spends approximately 80% of its $1 billion annual budget on personnel salary and benefits. Most of FSIS' approximately 9,600 workforce was devoted to inspection and other frontline duties, such as investigations and laboratory testing. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) has responsibility for strategic and annual planning and reporting, budget, and financial management and controls, audit liaison, and evaluation in FSIS. The CFO manages policies and financial reporting systems that support FSIS' public health mission and goals.
