FSIS Strategic Plan 2017-2021 | Annual Plan FY 2019

On November 2, 2016, FSIS released the 2017-2021 Strategic Plan. This plan will allow us to continue to modernize and be more effective in meeting our public health mission. The New Strategic Plan includes the following three goals:

  • Prevent Foodborne Illness and Protect Public Health;
  • Modernize Inspection Systems, Policies, and the Use of Scientific Approaches;
  • Achieve Operational Excellence.

Every FSIS employee has an impact on food safety and on the successes of FSIS, and what you do is fundamental to the Agency’s ability to accomplish its mission.

FSIS has also released a 5-year report of key accomplishments under the previous (FY 2011-2016) strategic plan.

Notify the Hazard Identification Team of Emerging Food Safety Issues

Do you know of an emerging food safety issue? If so, the Hazard Identification Team (HIT) wants to hear from you! FSIS employees work on the front lines of food safety and are uniquely positioned to detect and report emerging food safety concerns to HIT for further evaluation and action. For example, a previous submission to HIT concerning chicken-liver related outbreaks resulted in the development of an FSIS chicken liver resource webpage. For more information, see Directive 8091.2, Procedures for the Hazard Identification Team or email: HazardIdentificationTeam@usda.gov.
