The Codex Session will be held in Australia from March 1-5, 2010.

The public meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Room 107-A, USDA Jamie L. Whitten Building, 1200 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, D.C. Documents and agenda items related to the 18th Session of the CCFICS are available at the Codex Web site at http://www.codexalimentarius.net/current.asp.

Codex was created in 1963 by two United Nations organizations, the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization. Codex develops food standards, guidelines and codes of practice in order to protect the health of consumers, ensure fair food trade practices and promote coordination of food standards undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations.

The CCFICS, hosted by the government of Australia, was established to develop principles and guidelines for food import and export inspection and certification systems and to facilitate trade through harmonization, resulting in safe and quality foods for consumers.
