USDA Antibiotic Resistance Workshop (May 15-17, 2012; Beltsville, MD)

In May 2012, the USDA sponsored a workshop to assess steps that could be taken to address the issue of antibiotic use and resistance. The objectives of the workshop were as follows:

  • To review current antibiotic use and resistance monitoring,
  • To review management practices to reduce antibiotic resistance, and
  • To review alternatives to the use of antibiotics to treat and prevent diseases or to enhance production in food animals.

This report summarizes the key points that emerged from the workshop.

2012 Meat and Poultry Inspection Seminars for International Officials (multiple dates/locations)
This seminar is designed to familiarize international government officials with U.S. inspection regulations and procedures used by USDA to assure that the nation's meat, poultry and egg products are safe, wholesome and properly labeled.

NACMCF Subcommittee to Hold Public Meetings (May 8-10, 2012; Washington, DC)
The National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods (NACMCF), Subcommittee on Control Strategies for Reducing Foodborne Norovirus Infections will meet to discuss improving control of the transmission of foodborne human noroviruses.

Foodborne Illness Source Attribution Public Meeting (Jan 31, 2012, Washington, DC)
