Alabama Firm Recalls Barbecue Pork Products Due To Mislabeling and an Undeclared Allergen
WASHINGTON, Feb. 9, 2011 - Simmons' Barbecue, Inc. a Guntersville, Ala., establishment is recalling approximately 4,680 pounds of barbecue pork products because they contain an undeclared allergen, whey, which is not declared on the label. Whey is a known allergen.
The products subject to recall include:
- 5-lb. vacuum sealed packages of "Simmons' BARBECUE, INC. Bar-be-cue Pork With Sauce"
- 5-lb. vacuum sealed packages of "Simmons' BARBECUE, INC. Bar-be-cue Pork With Thick Sauce."
Each package bears the establishment number "19523" inside the USDA mark of inspection as well as a packaging date.
The products were packaged on Nov. 30, 2010 through Feb. 8, 2011, and shipped to wholesalers that distributed to restaurants in Ala., Ga., Miss., and Tenn.
The problem was discovered by FSIS during a routine inspection, and may have occurred because of a change in ingredients at the establishment. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers, including restaurants, of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
