The guidance provides information about label dating on products regulated by FSIS, including descriptions of types of dating, whether dating is required by Federal regulations, and whether a product may be unsafe to use after a listed date. It applies to official establishments and retail establishments and the actions they may take when dating products, as well as to consumers and the actions they may take when purchasing and using label-dated food products. It relates to 9 CFR 317.8, 381.129, and 590.411.
