USDA Recall Classifications

Class I - High or Medium Risk
This is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
Class II - Low Risk
This is a health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product.
Class III - Marginal Risk
This is a situation where the use of the product will not cause adverse health consequences.

WASHINGTON, 16 de noviembre de 2018 ñ Majestic Meat Company, una compaÒÌa en Salt Lake City, Utah, est· retirando aproximadamente 532 libras de productos de carne de res molida que podrÌan estar contaminados con E. coli O157:H7, anunciÛ hoy el Servicio de Inocuidad e InspecciÛn de Alimentos (FSIS, por sus siglas en inglÈs) del Departamento de Agricultura de los EE.UU.

Los productos objeto de la retirada est·n marcados con el n˙mero de establecimiento "EST. 19915" dentro del sello de inspecciÛn del USDA. Estos artÌculos fueron enviados a restaurantes en el estado de Utah.

El problema fue descubierto el 15 de noviembre de 2018, cuando el FSIS identificÛ que el producto asociado a una muestra que resultÛ positiva para la E. coli O157:H7, habÌa sido enviado. El establecimiento tenÌa en su posesiÛn 2 de las 3 cajas de material de origen asociado con el producto muestreado, la tercera caja de material de origen habÌa tenido un proceso posterior y se habÌa enviado. No han habido reportes confirmados de reacciones adversas debido al consumo de estos productos.

Cualquier persona que tenga inquietudes acerca de lesiones o enfermedades debe contactar a un proveedor de servicios de salud. La E. coli O157: H7 es una bacteria potencialmente letal que puede causar deshidrataciÛn, diarrea con sangrado y calambres abdominales de 2 a 8 dÌas (3 a 4 dÌas, en promedio) despuÈs de la exposiciÛn al organismo. Si bien la mayorÌa de las personas se recuperan en una semana, algunas desarrollan una falla renal llamada sÌndrome urÈmico hemolÌtico (HUS por sus siglas en inglÈs). Est· condiciÛn se puede dar en personas de cualquier edad pero es m·s com˙n en los niÒos menores de 5 aÒos y en los adultos mayores. Se caracteriza por hematomas frecuentes, palidez y disminuciÛn del gasto urinario. Las personas que presenten estos sÌntomas deben buscar atenciÛn mÈdica de emergencia inmediatamente.

El FSIS realiza revisiones sobre la efectividad de retirada de manera rutinaria para verificar que las empresas que realizan una retirada le notifiquen a sus clientes de esta y que se sigan los pasos necesarios para asegurarse de que el producto ya no estÈ al alcance de los consumidores. El FSIS le recomienda a todos los consumidores que preparen sus productos de carne cruda de manera segura, incluyendo tanto los productos frescos como los congelados; tambiÈn recomienda que consuman ˙nicamente carne de res molida que haya sido cocida a una temperatura de 165∞F.
