USDA Recall Classifications

Class I - High or Medium Risk
This is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
Class II - Low Risk
This is a health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product.
Class III - Marginal Risk
This is a situation where the use of the product will not cause adverse health consequences.

WASHINGTON, 3 de junio del 2016 ñ Butterfield Foods, LLC., un establecimiento localizado en Noblesville, Indiana, est· retirando del mercado aproximadamente 15,966 libras de productos de aderezo para ensalada de brÛcoli que podrÌan estar adulterados con Listeria Monocytogenes, anunciÛ hoy el Servicio de Inocuidad e InspecciÛn de Alimentos del Departamento de Agricultura (U.S. Department of Agricultureís Food Safety and Inspection Service -- FSIS por sus siglas en inglÈs).

Los productos sujetos a esta retirada portan el n˙mero de establecimiento ìEST. 6945î dentro del sello de inspecciÛn de USDA. Los productos tienen Los productos tienen fechas de ìvender hastaî (ìsell-by dateî) desde el 10 de diciembre del 2015 hasta el 23 de junio del 2016. Estos productos fueron enviados a establecimientos comerciales en Indiana y Ohio y usados para hacer productos de ensalada preparada posteriormente distribuidos a los consumidores en las charcuterÌas o salsamentarÌas de los supermercados.

El problema fue descubierto el 2 de junio del 2016 cuando un establecimiento fue informado por parte de su distribuidor de que los productos de semilla de girasol de la marca SunOpta usados en el aderezo del kit para ensalada de brÛcoli de Butterfield Foods habÌan sido retirados del mercado debido a una posible contaminaciÛn con Listeria monocytogenes. No ha habido reportes confirmados de reacciones adversas debido al consumo de los productos de Batterfield Foods que est·n siendo sujetos a esta retirada.

El consumo de alimentos contaminados con Listeria monocytogenes puede causar listeriosis. La listeriosis es un infecciÛn severa la cual afecta principalmente a personas de edad avanzada, personas con el sistema inmunolÛgico comprometido, a mujeres embarazadas y sus reciÈn nacidos. Es menos com˙n que personas fuera de este grupo de riesgo sean afectados.

La listeriosis puede causar fiebre, dolores musculares, dolores de cabeza, tortÌcolis, confusiÛn, pÈrdida de balance y convulsiones las cuales son precedidas en ocasiones por diarrea u otros sÌntomas gastrointestinales. Siendo esta una infecciÛn invasiva la misma se extiende m·s all· del sistema gastrointestinal. En mujeres embarazadas la infecciÛn puede causar aborto natural, muerte fetal, parto prematuro o infecciones de alto riesgo en bebÈs reciÈn nacidos. En personas de edad avanzada o aquellos individuos con sistema inmunolÛgico comprometido la listeriosis puede causar infecciones serias o fatales. La listeriosis es tratada con antibiÛticos. Toda persona que pertenezca a alguna de estas categorÌas consideradas como alto riesgo y que tenga sÌntomas parecidos a los de la influenza durante un plazo de no m·s de dos meses de haber consumido cualquier alimento contaminado debe buscar atenciÛn mÈdica e informarle al proveedor de salud acerca de haber comido la comida contaminada.

Se le recomienda a los consumidores que hayan comprado en las charcuterÌas o salsamentarÌas los productos de ensalada preparada que contienen el producto retirado del mercado no consumirlos. Estos productos de ensalada preparada deben ser desechados o devueltos al establecimiento donde fueron comprados.   • Lave sus manos con agua tibia y jabÛn al menos por 20 segundos antes y despuÈs de manipular carnes y aves crudas. Lave las tablas de cortar, platos y utensilios con agua caliente y jabÛn. Limpie inmediatamente los derrames.
  • No consuma perros calientes (ìhot-dogsî), embutidos, mortadela u otras carnes de charcuterÃŒa (deli) a menos que sean recalentadas hasta que estÈn humeando por el calor.
