WASHINGTON, Oct. 3, 2014 – Vigil Beef Jerky Co., an Albuquerque, N.M. establishment, is recalling approximately 48 pounds of beef jerky products because they were shipped with the mark of inspection when they were produced under a retail exemption, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

All products bear the establishment number "EST. 34272" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were sold in retail establishments in New Mexico.
The problem was discovered as a result of an ongoing investigation. FSIS believes the company produced product under a retail exemption but made use of the Federal mark of inspection, which is a violation of Federal regulations.
FSIS has received no reports of illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that recalled product is no longer available to consumers.
