WASHINGTON, Feb. 4, 2014 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are sponsoring a public meeting to provide information, receive public comments on agenda items and draft U.S. positions to be discussed at the 33rd Session of the Codex Committee on Fish and Fish Products (CCFFP). The 33rd Session will be held in Bergen, Norway, Feb. 17-21, 2014.
The public meeting will be held Feb. 6, 2014, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Wiley Building, Room 1A-001, 5100 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, Md. 20740. Hosted by Norway, the CCFFP is responsible for elaborating worldwide standards for fresh, frozen, including quick frozen or otherwise processed fish, crustaceans and mollusk.
Codex was established in 1963 by FAO/WHO. Codex seeks to protect the health of consumers and ensure fair practices in the food trade through adoption of food standards, codes of practice and other guidelines developed by its committees, and by promoting their adoption and implementation by governments.
