FSIS ensures that the nation’s commercial supply of meat, poultry, egg products, and catfish is safe, wholesome, and correctly labeled and packaged as required by the Federal Meat Inspection Act, the Poultry Products Inspection Act, the Egg Products Inspection Act, and catfish regulations. FSIS coordinates U.S. involvement and participation in the Codex Alimentarius Commission, a United Nations' international standard setting organization for food safety and public health.
