Codex Committee on Food Additives

Host Government: China

The Codex Committee on Food Additives (CCFA) establishes or endorses acceptable maximum levels (MLs) for individual food additives; prepares a priority list of food additives for risk assessment by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA); assigns functional classes to individual food additives; recommends specifications of identity and purity for food additives for adoption by the Commission; considers methods of analysis for the determination of additives in food; and considers and elaborates standards or codes for related subjects such as the labeling of food additives when sold as such. 

The Committee held its 47th Session  March 23-27, 2015, in Xi’an, Peoples Republic of China. The U.S. Delegate’s Report of that Session is available. 

The next session of the Codex Committee on Food Additives will take place from March 14-18, 2016 in Location TBA. Upon availability, the agenda and committee documents can be accessed at http://www.codexalimentarius.org/meetings-reports/en/.
