Recent Outreach

Coordinating Committee for Africa (CCAFRICA): The U.S. Codex Office concluded a three-day colloquium in Lome, Togo, on February 19. The colloquium was co-hosted with the African Union – Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources. Delegates from the United States and a number of CCAFRICA member countries exchanged views to prepare for participation in the upcoming meetings for the Committee on General Principles (CCGP), the Committee on Contaminants in Foods (CCCF), and the Committee on Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods (CCRVDF). This is the 9th CCAFRICA colloquium since this series began in 2008.

Upcoming Public Meetings

Committee on Food Additives (CCFA): The US Delegate to the CCFA has rescheduled the public meeting which was cancelled due to inclimate weather on Tuesday, February 17 to Monday, February 23, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Room 1A-001, US FDA, Harvey Wiley Federal Building, 5100 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, MD 20740.  Please note that those previously registered, do not need to re-register for the meeting. The purpose of this public meeting is to present draft US positions on the topics to be discussed at the upcoming meeting of CCFA.  If you are not able to attend the meeting in person, please use the following information to connect by phone (please note that the call-in information has changed): toll free: 1-855-828-1770; meeting ID: 272 065 864.  When asked for an attendee ID, simply hit the # sign  (no attendee id numbers have been assigned).  CCFA will hold its 47th session in Xi’an, China from March 23-27.  The proposed agenda for this session is available at http://www.codexalimentarius.org/meetings-reports/en.

Committee on Contaminants in Foods (CCCF): The US Delegate to the CCCF has scheduled the public meeting for Monday, February 23 from 1:00-4:00 PM at the US FDA, Harvey Wiley Federal Building, 5100 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, MD 20740.  Please note the specific meeting room has not yet been assigned.  The purpose of this public meeting is to present draft US positions on the topics to be discussed at the upcoming meeting of CCCF.  If you are not able to attend the meeting in person, please use the following information to connect by phone: Call-in Number: 1-888-844-9904; Participant Code: 512-6092.  CCCF will hold its 9th session in New Delhi, India from March 16-20.  The proposed agenda for this session is available at http://www.codexalimentarius.org/meetings-reports/en.

Committee on General Principles (CCGP): The US Delegate to the CCGP will conduct a public meeting on Wednesday, February 25, from 1:00-4:00 PM, at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) South Building, Room 1160, 1400 Independence Ave, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20250.   The purpose of this public meeting is to present draft US positions on the topics to be discussed at the upcoming meeting of CCGP.  Persons interested in attending the public meeting in person are strongly urged to provide their name, organizational affiliation, and contact information to Barbara McNiff (202-205-7760; barbara.mcniff@fsis.usda.gov) for pre-clearance into the building.  Persons interested in participating by teleconference should dial 888-844-9904, and use participant code 512-6092.  CCGP will hold its 29th session in Paris, France, March 9-13.  The proposed agenda for this session is available at http://www.codexalimentarius.org/meetings-reports/en.

Electronic Working Groups (eWGs)

Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) invites Members and Observers to join an eWG, co-chaired by Chile and the Russian Federation, working in English and Spanish, to work on a NRV-NCD for omega-3 fatty acids based on EPA and DHA, with the following terms of reference:

  • Assess the most current scientific evidence in line with the General Principles;
  • Make recommendations to set a potential Codex NRV-NCD for the total of Omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA, in accordance with the general principles for NRV-NCD as set out in the Annex to the Guidelines on Nutrition Labelling.

Individuals in the United States interested in participating should provide their name, official title, and e-mail address to the U.S. Codex Office (USCodex@fsis.usda.gov) by March 12, 2015.  Individuals in other Member countries and organizations interested in participating should forward their information through their Codex Contact Points by March 15, 2015, to:  codex@achipia.gob.cl, codex@ion.ru and cristian.cofre@minsal.cl, acanales@direcon.gob.cl, smirnova@ion.ru.

FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for Asia (CCAsia): At the last session, members agreed to reestablish an eWG, chaired by the Republic of Korea and co-chaired by Japan, open to all Members of the Asia Region and observers, working in English only, to redraft the proposed draft regional standard for Laver products for consideration by the next session.  Individuals in the United States interested in participating should provide their name, official title, and e-mail address to the U.S. Codex Office (USCodex@fsis.usda.gov) by February 25, 2015.  Individuals in other Member countries and organizations interested in participating should forward their information through their Codex Contact Points by February 28, 2015, to bynoh@kfri.re.kr and hirohide_matsushima@nm.maff.go.jp.

Committee on Fish and Fishery Products (CCFFP) requests comments to Circular Letter (CL 2015/1-FFP) in English, French and Spanish on the appendices for optional final product requirements for commodities in the Code of Practice for Fish and Fishery Products (CAC/RCP 52-2003).  If you are interested in having your comments considered in the U.S. response to this circular letter, please send your comments to Bill Jones, U.S. Delegate to CCFFO, by email at: william.jones@fda.hhs.gov by June 1, 2015.  Other comments should be sent by June 30, 2015, directly to the Codex Secretariat by email at: codex@fao.org, with a copy to the CCFFP Secretariat by email at: CCFFP@mattilsynet.no
