Recent Outreach

Coordinating Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean (CCLAC): The U.S. Codex Office concluded a three-day colloquium in Santiago, Chile, on August 28.  Delegates from the United States and 19 CCLAC member countries exchanged views to prepare for participation in upcoming Codex meetings. The colloquium was co-hosted with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and attended by representatives from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, the United States, and Uruguay. This is the 10th CCLAC colloquium since this series began in 2008.

Electronic Working Groups (eWG)

Committee on Food Hygiene (CCFH) invites Members and Observers to join an eWG, led by Japan and Finland, working in English only, on the Annexes on statistical and mathematical matters related to Principles and Guidelines for the Establishment and Application of Microbiological Criteria related to Foods.  The specific terms of reference are to address the statistical and mathematical considerations related to establishing the performance characteristics of a sampling plan, including:

  • How to develop and interpret operating characteristics curves;
  • The impact of assumptions about the distribution and standard deviation of microorganisms in a food;
  • How to establish the length of a moving window; and
  • Any other relevant aspects.

Individuals in the United States interested in participating should provide their name, official title, and e-mail address to the U.S. Codex Office (USCodex@fsis.usda.gov) immediately.  Individuals in other Member countries and organizations interested in participating should forward their information directly through their Codex Contact Points to codexj@mhlw.go.jp with a copy to toyofuku@yamaguchi-u.ac.jp and Sebastian.Hielm@mmm.fi as soon as possible, as the original deadline for joining was September 1, 2014.
