Coordinating Committee for Asia (CCASIA): The U.S. Codex Office concluded a three-day colloquium in Vientiane, Laos, on June 16. Delegates from the United States and a number of CCASIA member countries exchanged views in preparation for the upcoming Codex Alimentarius Commission. The colloquium was attended by CCASIA representatives from Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Myanmar, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Electronic Working Groups
Committee on Food Labelling (CCFL) invites Members and Observers to join an eWG, chaired by Costa Rica and co-chaired by New Zealand, working in Spanish and English, to consider issues regarding front-of-pack nutrition labelling. The specific terms of reference are to take stock of the current front-of-pack nutrition labelling schemes existing in different countries and to consider the need for the development of global principles to underpin front-of-pack nutrition labelling. The EWG will prepare a discussion paper, taking into account the WHO work on this matter and a draft project document for consideration at the next session of the Committee. Individuals in the United States interested in participating should contact the U.S. Codex Office (USCodex@fsis.usda.gov) by July 25, 2016.
