Recent Committee Meetings
Approximately 29 countries and 69 delegates attended the 27th Session of the Codex Committee on Processed Fruits and Vegetables (CCPFV) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, September 8-12. The Committee advanced a number of standards for final adoption by the Codex Alimentarius Commission, including standards for canned fruit (mangoes and pears), ginseng products, and annexes for quick frozen vegetables (leeks, whole kernel corn, carrots, and corn on the cob). Standards for canned pineapple and the remaining frozen vegetable annexes (including french fried potatoes) were not advanced and will be circulated for further comment. The Committee also forwarded amended standards for chestnuts and chestnut puree, bamboo shoots, and certain canned vegetables for final adoption. The European Union expressed a reservation with respect to including a more general reference to the General Standard for Food Additives, rather than listing specific additives, in standards for pickled vegetables. The Committee agreed to form an electronic working group led by Brazil on issues related to dry and dried produce and to direct the Secretariat to prepare editorial updates of the remaining 17 CCPFV standards for consideration at its next session, in 2016. Participants also agreed that paprika, dried chili peppers, dried garlic and dried ginger could be considered for new work in CCSCH rather than CCPFV.
