Upcoming Committee Meetings
Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) will hold its 35th Session in Bad Soden, Germany, November 7-11, 2013. The agenda for this session will feature discussion of the revision of the Guidelines on Formulated Supplementary Foods for Older Infants and Young Children; General Principles for the Development and Review of Nutrient Reference Values (NRVs) for Labeling Purposes for Nutrients Associated with Risk of Diet-related Non-communicable Diseases; proposed Additional or Revised NRVs for Labeling Purposes; revision of the Codex General Principles for the Addition of Essential Nutrients to Foods; amendment of the Standard for Processed Cereal-Based Foods for Infants and Young Children to include a New Part B for Underweight Children; review of the Codex Standard on Follow-up Formula; and review of the Codex definition of Trans Fatty Acids.
Committee on Food Hygiene (CCFH) will hold its 45th Session in Hanoi, Viet Nam, November 11-15, 2013. The agenda for this session will feature discussion of the proposed draft guidelines for control of Trichinella spiralis and Cysticercus bovis in meat; the proposed draft of the Code of Hygienic Practice for Spices and Aromatic Plants; the proposed Code of Practice for Low-Moisture Foods, and a paper on the revision of Code of Hygienic Practice for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables.
The delegates will also consider a proposal from the United States that CCFH undertake new work to develop guidelines for the control of nontyphoidal Salmonella spp. in beef and pork meat. Salmonellosis is one of the most frequently reported foodborne diseases worldwide. It has a complex epidemiology, and antimicrobial resistance in nontyphoidal Salmonella serotypes is now a global problem.
Working group on establishing CCFH priorities and on the Guidelines of Specific Zoonotic Parasites in Meat: Trichinella spp. and Cysticercus bovis will be held on Sunday, November 10.
The Codex Secretariat has extended until November 13 the deadline for receiving proposals for work to be undertaken by the Committee on Spices and Culinary Herbs (CCSCH). Organizations in the United States interested in contributing to the U.S. proposals for CCSCH should send their recommendations to USCodex@fsis.usda.gov by November 8. Codex Member countries and observer organizations should submit their proposals to the National Codex Contact Point of India (firstname.lastname@example.org) and email@example.com, with a copy to the Codex Secretariat (firstname.lastname@example.org) by November 13, 2013. CCSCH will conduct its inaugural session in Kochi, India, February 11-14.
