Exported Processed Egg Products
Processed egg products are regulated by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and are defined as any liquid, frozen, or dried eggs, with or without added ingredients. Egg products are eggs that have been removed from their shells for processing. The processing of egg products includes breaking eggs, filtering, mixing, stabilizing, blending, and pasteurizing.
FSIS issues the PY-200, Egg Products Inspection and Grading Certificate, for the export of egg products that are amenable to the Egg Products Inspection Act.
Exporting products containing small amounts of egg
Products containing eggs in a relatively small proportion or that historically have not been considered by consumers as products of the egg food industry are not represented as egg products and are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Agricultural Marketing Service will certify for FDA a wide range of products, including cooked omelets, frozen egg patties, crepes, hard boiled eggs, egg substitutes, imitation egg products, mayonnaise, and foods containing egg extracts.
While these FDA-regulated products containing eggs may be produced under FSIS voluntary inspection for distribution in U.S. commerce, effective November 10, 2014, FSIS will no longer certify these products for export. Exporters should contact the FDA or USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service for assistance. Additional information can be found on AMS' Website.
For any shipments of FDA-regulated products containing eggs previously certified by FSIS using the PY-200, exporters seeking a replacement certificate are to contact FSIS headquarters at 1-855-444-9904 or by e-mail at email@example.com.
Requirements for all Countries (Countries with additional requirements are listed below)
At the request of the exporter, FSIS will issue FSIS Form PY-200, provided the egg products are amenable to the Egg Products Inspection Act and meet FSIS requirements.
While FSIS does not permit additional statements on the FSIS Form PY-200 related to egg products, other than those listed in the FSIS Export Library for Egg Products, the following poultry health certification statement may be included on the FSIS Form PY-200 upon the request of the exporter.
- "The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, certifies that no cases of lethal avian influenza (fowl plague) and no cases of exotic Newcastle disease have been reported in commercial laying flocks in the State of origin where the shell eggs originated and/or were processed for the 6 months preceding departure of this consignment. The shell eggs used to produce the product covered by this certificate originated in (name of state(s))."
Prior to shipping egg products, exporters should be advised to have their importers confirm that the importing country will accept the certification statements indicated on the PY-200.
