E. Describe Agency Efforts To:

  1. Improve timeliness: Established a point of contact list to include address, telephone number and e-mail address. Established a central FOIA file where all FOIA requests are filed in numerical order in which they are received. The newest request goes to the back of the file. All assigned FOIA Technicians, and Specialists work from this drawer, retrieving the next case file from the front of the drawer.
  2. Reduce backlog: The backlog has been virtually eliminated and the FOIA Staff is working requests as we receive the requested information from the various agencies within FSIS.
  3. Provide training: The entire FOIA staff attended one week of the annual ASAP Training in July of 2001. Training is also provided during semi-weekly meetings to include guest speakers.
  4. Add new categories of records: N/A
