| Export Certification of Product Since BSE
|
|
|
 |
Since the finding of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in the U.S. in December 2003, FSIS has implemented various controls and procedures to assure that the
U.S. beef supply is safe. Many importing countries have additional restrictions on U.S. beef
products, resulting in complex certification requirements for the agency.
Regarding of the complexity, the requirements of the importing country must be observed. It is important that FSIS
inspection officials consult the country requirements on the
FSIS Web site for the most current product eligibility and certification requirements for any given country.
This information should be used to assure that only eligible products are certified for export and, if the
product is eligible, that the issued certification is current and correct. Questions regarding export certification
can be directed to the Office of International Affairs at (202) 720-3473.
