Speaker Biographies

Sheryl Cates

Ms. Sheryl Cates is a Research Business Analyst in the Food and Nutrition Policy & Consumer Behaviors Program at RTI International. Ms. Cates conducts research to design and evaluate consumer education programs and labeling messages and to evaluate changes in consumer practices as a result of education initiatives and food safety labeling. She employs both qualitative and quantitative research methods including focus groups, in-depth interviews, telephone surveys, and Web-enabled panel surveys. At RTI, she manages studies funded by the USDA, FSIS and the FDA on food safety issues. Ms. Cates has published in the Journal of Food Protection and Resource and Energy Economics. She has a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
