Congressional and Public Affairs USDA Seeks Membership Nominations for National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry InspectionWASHINGTON, October 20, 2003--The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced today that it is seeking nominations for membership on the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI). Due to the resignation of a member appointed in March 2003, USDA is currently seeking a consumer representative to maintain committee balance among all constituents. The appointee will serve out the remainder of the term, which ends in March 2005. The NACMPI was established in 1971 to provide advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture regarding meat and poultry inspection programs. The committee, which generally meets at least twice a year, addresses food safety concerns and policy issues affecting USDA. The Secretary of Agriculture appoints members to the committee. Members will serve two-year terms and no member may serve on NACMPI for more than three consecutive terms. Nominations will be accepted through November 19, 2003, and should be sent to Dr. Garry L. McKee, Administrator, Food Safety and Inspection Service, Room 615- Cotton Annex Building, 300 12th Street, SW, Washington, DC 20250-3700.
