WASHINGTON, Nov. 8, 2001--The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has reopened the comment period on amending the agency’s residue policy. In response to requests, the comment period will be reopened for 30 days, until Dec. 10.
On Aug. 6, FSIS published a notice requesting comment on the agency’s intent to begin condemning entire carcasses if target tissue tests exceed residue levels. The original 30 day comment period closed on Sept. 5.
Written comments may be submitted to: FSIS Docket Room, Docket #00-026R, Room 102, Cotton Annex Building, 300 12th Street, SW, Washington, DC 20250-3700. All comments are available for public viewing in the FSIS Docket Room between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
