FSIS to Hold Regulatory Education Sessions in Maryland, Alabama, Louisiana and Tennessee
FSIS will hold regulatory education sessions on August 8 for the owners and operators of small and very small plants in Maryland, Alabama, Louisiana and Tennessee.

The sessions will be held at the following locations:
  • Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites, 30232 Lighthouse Square Drive, Delmar, Md., from 6 to 9 p.m. This session will cover a regulatory walk-through of sanitation standard operating procedures, and hazard analysis and critical control point and rules of practice regulations.

  • Quality Inn Dothan, 3053 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan, Ala., from 6 to 9 p.m. This session will cover a regulatory walk-through of sanitation performance standard regulations and food defense.

  • Comfort Inn, 1951 North Service Road East, Ruston, La., from 6 to 9 p.m. This session will cover a regulatory walk-through of sanitation standard operating procedures, and hazard analysis and critical control point and rules of practice regulations.

  • Sheraton Read House Hotel, 827 Broad Street, Chattanooga, Tenn., from 6 to 9 p.m. This session will cover a regulatory walk-through of sanitation performance standard regulations and food defense.

FSIS to Hold Web Seminar for Small and Very Small Plants
FSIS will hold a Web seminar on August 8 as part of its initiative to provide outreach to small and very small plants.

The seminar will cover the jerky compliance guidelines, and regulatory, practical and scientific approaches for processing safe jerky products. The seminar will be held from 11 a.m. to noon. Registrations will be accepted through August 3.

A seminar representative will contact persons who register to attend the week of the seminar with instructions on how to join the event.

FSIS to Hold Meeting on Public Health-Based Slaughter Inspection
FSIS will hold a public meeting on August 7 to discuss public health-based slaughter inspection.

This meeting will address the scientific foundations for future decision making including how to address Campylobacter, Salmonella and other public health concerns.

The meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at George Mason University, School of Public Policy, 3401 Fairfax Drive, Arlington, Virginia 22201. The George Mason University campus is located near the Virginia Square Metro Station on Metro's Orange Line for participants attending in person.

Register to Attend NACMPI Public Meetings
The National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI) will hold public meetings on August 8 and 9.

The purpose of these meetings is to discuss data collection and analysis, which will include standard operating procedures, technical plan for risk-based inspection and a pilot project to explore mechanisms for sharing industry data with FSIS.

The full committee will hold public meetings on August 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and August 9, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, EDT.

Subcommittees will hold open meetings on August 8, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., EDT, to discuss these issues after the full committee session.

All committee meetings will be held at George Mason University, Arlington Campus, 3401 Fairfax Drive, Arlington, Virginia 22201.

FSIS Issues Notices
FSIS publishes directives and notices to enable the agency to carry out its mission of protecting public health.

This week, FSIS issued the following notices:
  • Notice 46-07 - Contents of Noncompliance Records. This notice provides clarification to inspection program personnel regarding standardized language or "tag lines" used on FSIS Form 5400-4, Noncompliance Record (NR).

    This notice cancels Notice 42-07 and re-issues the identical notice with a revised version of the attachment.

  • Notice 47-07 - New Performance-Based Inspection System (PBIS) Procedure Code and Result Codes. This notice provides instructions for use of the build PBIS schedules function. The notice also introduces the new procedure code 07A01 and provides new result codes for use with the procedure code 07A01.

Export Requirement Updates
The Library of Export Requirements has been updated to reflect changes in export requirements for the following:
