FSIS Posts Commonly Asked Questions on Corrective Actions
FSIS issued Notice 70-06 on October 23 titled,
Availability of Commonly Asked Questions Regarding Corrective Actions.
This notice informs inspection program personnel that the agency posted to its Web site commonly asked questions
from small and very small establishments about corrective actions. It does not issue any verification procedures to
FSIS personnel.
The question and answer documents are available at http://www.fsis.usda.gov/help/ FAQs_Small_&_Very_Small_Plants/index.asp.
FSIS Continues to Solicit and Accept Comments on Risk-Based Inspection
FSIS is soliciting comments on the topics that were discussed during the public meeting on risk-based inspection (RBI).
FSIS held the public meeting on October 10 and 11 to discuss risk-based inspection issues. The meeting provided an
overview of FSIS' vision for risk-based inspection. Agenda items also included discussions on measuring establishment
risk control, measuring inherent product risk and risk-based inspection implementation.
The agency is accepting comments until it posts a report in December prepared for the Agency by the third-party
facilitator, Resolve. The agency will make another announcement at that time about the availability of the report and
opportunity for public comment on the report.
Comments can be submitted by e-mail to
RiskBasedInspection@fsis.usda.gov
or by fax to (202) 690-6519.
For more information about risk-based inspection, the workshop meeting materials and background and technical papers,

The 15th E. coli O157:H7 positive case this year was reported from a sample collect on October 11 in FSIS'
microbiological sampling program. The sample was collected in Missouri.
This report brings to 294 the overall number of positive samples analyzed since the inception of the program.
There have been 9,350 samples analyzed so far this year; 89,261 samples have been analyzed overall.
For more information about results from the sampling program, visit FSIS' Web site at

Export Tip of the Week
Certification statements required by importing countries are sometimes too voluminous to include in the "Remarks"
section of FSIS Form 9060-5, Meat and Poultry Export Certificates of Wholesomeness. In such cases, the
certification statements are provided on letterhead certificates that are placed in the country requirements and
can be easily downloaded for signature by FSIS inspection officials.
These letterhead certificates should not be modified, and additional statements should not be included on the
preprinted form. If importers demand that additional statements be included on the letterhead certificate or in
the "Remarks" section of Form 9060-5, call the Office of International Affairs at (202) 720-3473 for further guidance.
Export Library Updates
There were no changes in the export requirements this week.
