Nora Helena Elsalawy
Biological Science Technician

Nora Elsalawy was born in San Diego, California and grew up in Vista, a suburb of San Diego. She was active in the 4-H poultry program for 6 years and continued her education in birds at the University of California, Davis as an Avian Sciences major. Currently she is participating in the University of California Washington Program, which combines classroom education and internship experience.

Ms. Elsalawy joined the Animal and Egg Production Food Safety Staff in October 2001. Slated projects include helping to coordinate the poultry section for the Puerto Rico Conference on Animal Production Food Safety and working to develop on-farm HACCP guidelines for poultry operations.

Notable honors Ms. Elsalawy has received include the Asmundson Poultry Science Achievement Award, Outstanding Senior Award, and The UC Bar Award, all from UC Davis. In 2000, she presented a paper of original research at the 89th Annual Meeting of the Poultry Science Association. On her home campus she is a member of the Avian Sciences club and the honor society Alpha Zeta. Ms. Elsalawy will receive her B.S. in Avian Sciences in December 2001 and plans to return to UC Davis in fall 2002 to continue her education.
