Product(s) Recalled:  All varieties and sizes of wieners, hot dogs and franks.
Production Dates/Identifying Codes: The following brand wiener, hot dog, and frank products in 12- to 24-ounce packages are subject to recall:
  • ''DINNER DELIGHTS''
  • ''JUBILEE HOT DOGS''
  • ''FROSTY MORN''
  • ''Lay's "WIENERS''
  • Lay's ''quik starts''
  • Lay's ''Thrift''
  • ''Madison''
  • ''WD''
  • Lay Packing Company ''CIRCLE L''
All products with a ''Sell By'' code of ''Dec 08'' or before stamped on the packages are being recalled. The product packages also bear the Lay Packing establishment number ''EST.967'' or ''P-967'' either in the USDA mark of inspection or stamped on the side.
Problem/Reason for Recall: The product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
How/When Discovered: Follow-up samples, collected by North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Food and Drug protection Division, from retail markets returned positive results for Listeria monocytogenes. North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services authorities notified FSIS and Lay Packing of the lab results. In addition to the product represented by the positive samples, the firm is voluntarily recalling all franks, wieners and hot dogs that are in commerce up to the sale date of December 08, 2000.
