Production Dates/Identifying Codes: Packed June 22, 1999, with the code "1739" on each can in addition to "717C" in the USDA mark of inspection. Shipping cases are coded with the numbers "120230" plus "1739".
Problem/Reason for Recall: Underprocessing.
How/When Discovered: The firm was notified by one of its customers, on October 25, 1999, that some containers of product in their possession were swollen. After an evaluation of the product at the customers warehouse and a review of plants production records, the firm initiated a recall and notified the Food Safety and Inspection Service on October 26, 1999.
