Product(s) Recalled:  "Mrs. Stratton's" brand "Chicken Salad" in 7, 12 and 24-ounce and 5-pound plastic containers.
Production Dates/Identifying Codes: Produced on June 26 and 27, 2000. The 7, 12 and 24-ounce containers bear the code "SELL BY AUG 11" or "SELL BY AUG 12" on the container bottoms. The 5-pound containers bear the code "SELL BY AUG 6" on the label. "P-395" appears in the USDA inspection legend on the labels on all containers.
Problem/Reason for Recall: The product contains undeclared F.D.&C. Yellow #5 dye.
How/When Discovered: The firm observed an unusual appearance in the product which was determined to have been caused by a substitute ingredient that was used. The substitute ingredient contained the dye as one of its ingredients. The firm initiated a voluntary recall of the salad and notified FSIS on July 6, 2000.
