Product(s) Recalled:  "Top-Kut Meats Ground Beef" and "Top-Kut Meats Pork Sausage". The pork sausage was produced on June 29, 2000, and distributed to one restaurant in Calhoun County, Michigan.
Production Dates/Identifying Codes: Ground beef was produced on June 27 and June 29, 2000, and packaged in five and ten-pound unlabeled packages and shipped in 20 and 40 pound boxes. The boxes are marked with "Est. 10024" inside the USDA mark of inspection in addition to the production codes "262" and "254". The ground beef products subject to recall were also sold at the plant’s retail store in packages that have no identifying marks and of various weights ranging from one to ten pounds. The boxes of the pork sausage bear the establishment number, product name (Top-Kut Meats Pork Sausage) and were sold for wholesale use.
Problem/Reason for Recall: Possible Escherichia coli O157: H7 contamination.
How/When Discovered: An FSIS microbiological sample was collected on June 27, 2000, and reported positive for E. coli O157: H7 on July 02, 2000. The pork sausage was ground in the same grinder as the suspect ground beef without intervening clean-ups.
