Product(s) Recalled:  "Ground beef 80-20" packaged in 5 pound tubes (chubs) and "ground beef patties" packaged in 10 pound packages. The product was sold for institutional use only.
Production Dates/Identifying Codes: All recalled products were produced on June 3, 1999. The tubes, packages and boxes bear Establishment 0670 in the mark of inspection. The fresh ground beef 80-20 was marked with the date of production (box date 6-3-99) and code # 1379 on the boxes. The fresh ground beef patties were marked with the Julian date (box date 154) on the boxes.
Problem/Reason for Recall: The product may be contaminated with E. coli O157: H7.
How/When Discovered: FSIS samples tested on June 3, 1999, were found positive for E. coli O157: H7. The positive sample was collected as part of FSIS routine verification activities and found positive on June 10, 1999.
