Public Meeting To Address Codex Committee On Fish And Fishery Products

 WASHINGTON, April 30, 2002— The Office of the Undersecretary for Food Safety, U.S. Department of Agriculture, announced today a May 8 public meeting to discuss agenda items for the 25th session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission's Committee on Fish and Fishery Products.  The meeting will be co-sponsored by the Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The CCFFP was established to elaborate codes and standards for fish and fishery products. The committee’s 25th session will meet June 3-7 in Alesund, Norway. 

Agenda items to be discussed at the public meeting include product labeling requirements, proposed codes of practice and a model certificate for fish and fishery products.

The public meeting to discuss the agenda will be held from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, in Conference Room 3C 075, Harvey Wiley Building, 5100 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, MD.

Codex seeks to protect the health of consumers and to ensure fair practices in food trade. This goal is pursued by promoting the adoption and implementation by governments of food standards, codes of practice, and other guidelines developed by Codex committees.
