National Advisory Committee On Meat And Poultry Inspection To Hold Public Meeting

            WASHINGTON, Oct. 17, 2001—The National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection will hold a public meeting Nov. 14 and 15, 2001, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today. The two NACMPI subcommittees will also meet Nov. 14 to work on issues that will be discussed during the full committee sessions.

        The committee will discuss the retail exemption and modernizing the standards of identity for meat and poultry products. Once the meeting agenda is finalized, it will be available at http://www.fsis.usda.gov/OPPDE/nacmpi.

        The NACMPI meeting will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, and Thursday, Nov. 15. Subcommittee meetings will be held 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 14. All meetings will be held at The Washington Plaza Hotel, 10 Thomas Circle NW, Washington, DC 20005.         The NACMPI was established in 1971 to provide advice and recommendations to the secretary of agriculture about the meat and poultry inspection programs. The committee, which meets twice a year, addresses food safety concerns and policy issues affecting the USDA.
