WASHINGTON, Oct 31, 2011 - Windsor Quality Food
Co. Ltd., a Los Angeles, Calif., establishment is recalling
approximately 11,390 pounds of chicken pot pie empanadas that
may contain foreign materials, the U.S. Department of
Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS)
announced today.
The products subject to recall include:
- 10-lb cases each containing 4 boxes of 27 count “MOLLY’S
KITCHEN MINI CHICKEN POT PIE EMPANADAS," with the product
code of “953397” and best before date of “Aug. 30, 2012.”
The case and box labels bear the establishment number “P-9281”
inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products subject to
recall were produced on Aug. 30, 2011, and shipped to one
foodservice distributor for further distribution nationwide.
The problem was discovered by a customer (foodservice
distributor) who found pieces of plastic in the product. The
problem may have occurred due to a broken piece of equipment
utilized during the production process. FSIS and the company
have received no reports of illnesses or injury associated with
consumption of these products. Individuals concerned about an
illness or injury should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify
recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that
steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer
available to consumers.
Consumers and news reporters with questions about the recall
should contact Lynn Hall, the company’s Senior Vice President,
at (512) 249-3416.
Consumers with food safety questions can "Ask Karen," the FSIS virtual representative available
24 hours a day at AskKaren.gov. The toll-free USDA Meat and
Poultry Hotline 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) is available in English and Spanish and can be
