WASHINGTON, August 15, 2011 – Jerry’s Foods, an Annandale, Minn. establishment is recalling approximately 24 pounds of summer sausage products because of misbranding and undeclared allergens. The products contain the undeclared allergens whey and soy, ingredients in a spice blend, which are not noted on the label.

The products subject to recall include: [View Labels (PDF Only)]
  • 12-oz. (chub) packages of "County Market BEEF SUMMER SAUSAGE" in a burgundy colored casing.
  • 12-oz. (chub) packages of "County Market BEEF SUMMER SAUSAGE WITH JALAPENOS" in a burgundy colored casing.

The fully cooked, ready-to-eat products also bear the establishment number "EST. 7777" inside the USDA mark of inspection and a use by/sell by date of "9/10/11." The products, which have a 60-day shelf life, were produced July 12, 2011, and packaged on July 14, 2011. They were sold at a retail store owned by Jerry’s Foods in Wisconsin. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on FSIS' website at: www.fsis.usda.gov/FSIS_Recalls/Open_Federal_Cases/index.asp.

The problem was discovered during a label review at the establishment by a company quality control manager. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

Consumers and media with questions about the recall should contact the company’s president, Bob Shadduck, at (952) 922-8335.
