WASHINGTON, Nov. 13, 2005 - Case Farms, a Winesburg, Ohio, establishment, is voluntarily recalling approximately 389,000 pounds of various chicken products that may contain the pesticide Ronnel, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

The following products are subject to recall:
  • 50- pound cases of "CASE FARMS, AMISH COUNTRY CHICKEN, BONELESS SKINLESS WHOLE CHICKEN BREAST, contains up to 2.0% retained water." Each case bears the code "946-071" and bears the establishment number "EST. P-15724" inside the USDA seal of inspection.
  • 10- pound packages, four to the case of "CASE FARMS, AMISH COUNTRY CHICKEN, BONELESS SKINLESS WHOLE CHICKEN BREAST, contains up to 2.0% retained water." Each package bears the case code "946-122" and bears the establishment number "EST. P-15724" inside the USDA seal of inspection.
  • 10- pound packages, four to the case of "CASE FARMS, AMISH COUNTRY CHICKEN, BONELESS SKINLESS WHOLE CHICKEN BREAST, contains up to 2.0% retained water." Each package bears the case code "946-121" and bears the establishment number "EST. P-15724" inside the USDA seal of inspection.

  • 10- pound packages, four to the case of "WEST CREEK, Ready to Cook, CHICKEN THIGH MEAT, BONELESS SKINLESS, RANDOM SIZE, CONTAINS UP TO 4% RETAINED WATER." Each package bears the establishment number "EST. P-15724" inside the USDA seal of inspection.

The products were produced on August 29 and August 30, 2005. The products were sent to distribution, processing and retail establishments in California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Texas.

The problem was discovered by FSIS after reviewing establishment testing data. Excessive levels of this pesticide can be dangerous to children, the elderly, women in late stages of pregnancy and individuals with weakened immune systems.

USDA Recall Classifications
Class I This is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
Class II This is a health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product.
Class III This is a situation where the use of the product will not cause adverse health consequences.
